The 39th Stop TB Partnership Board Meeting took place in Manila on October 28-30, 2025. At this meeting, TB-affected communities and civil society groups shared a joint statement. This message came from the Key & Vulnerable Population Delegation, Community Delegation, Developing Countries NGO Delegation, and Developed Country NGOs Delegation.

 

The statement calls for:

• Keeping communities at the center of the TB response
• Strong political commitment
• Fair and sustainable funding
• Support for community-led programs like the Challenge Facility for Civil Society (CFCS), which helps make TB programs more accountable and inclusive

 

We thank the Stop TB Partnership Board for ensuring community voices were heard, and our partners — Unitaid, the Government of France, the Global Drug Facility, and the Stop TB Secretariat — for investing in community systems.

Now we ask all donors, public and private, to increase and sustain support for community engagement. No country or community should be left behind.

On 21 May 2026, the “Towards a TB-Free Future” Public Union organized an awareness event at Absheron Regional Hospital. The event was dedicated to awareness activities related to the declaration on the rights of people affected by tuberculosis. The main purpose of the meeting was to increase public awareness regarding patients’ rights. Medical staff, patients, and representatives of various departments of the hospital participated in the event. During the speeches, the importance of equal access to healthcare services was emphasized. It was stated that protecting the rights of people affected by tuberculosis is one of the key priorities of modern healthcare policy. Participants were provided with detailed information about the main provisions of the declaration. Particular attention was paid to protecting patients from discrimination. The importance of the right to confidentiality was also highlighted during the awareness session. Participants were informed that tuberculosis is a disease that can be treated and effectively controlled.

During discussions with healthcare professionals, special emphasis was placed on the importance of a patient-centered approach. Speakers noted that proper communication and trust-based relationships have a positive impact on the treatment process. Participants also highlighted the importance of the social integration of people affected by tuberculosis. Opinions were shared regarding the future development of healthcare services based on human rights principles. Patients were given the opportunity to freely ask questions of interest to them. All questions were answered in a professional manner. The interactive format of the event further increased participants’ interest. Both patients and healthcare professionals were provided with educational materials. The information presented made an important contribution to eliminating misconceptions related to the disease. The importance of public solidarity in the fight against tuberculosis was also specially emphasized during the meeting.

It was noted that combating tuberculosis is not only the responsibility of medical institutions but also a shared responsibility of society as a whole. The main purpose of the projects implemented by the “Towards a TB-Free Future” Public Union is to support the protection of public health. Representatives of the organization stated that such activities will continue in the future. The event held at Absheron Regional Hospital was met with great interest by participants. During the meeting, it was once again emphasized that the protection of human rights holds an important place within the healthcare system. Participants noted the importance of regularly organizing such awareness events. Awareness activities organized in the regions increase public confidence in healthcare services. Such initiatives also have a positive impact on strengthening social responsibility within society. At the end of the event, participants highly appreciated the activities of the organization. The “Towards a TB-Free Future” Public Union once again demonstrated its determination to continue initiatives aimed at protecting public health and patients’ rights in its future activities.
